Colonel Dozier is a career officer of the
Arkansas State Police and is the sixteenth director to lead the
department since the 1935 legislation creating the department.
He joined the ranks of the department in December, 1980 and was
appointed department director on June 25, 2004. In appointing
Colonel Dozier to the office of Director, Governor Mike Huckabee
said, "Steve was a logical choice. He has served twice as
the interim director. He has strong administrative skills and
the ability to work with troopers, civilian employees, members
of the Legislature and members of the Arkansas State Police Commission. I
have a great deal of confidence in Steve's leadership abilities.
He already has had a distinguished law enforcement career."
Colonel
Dozier is a graduate of Jonesboro High School and Arkansas State
University at Jonesboro, where he received a bachelor's degree
in criminology. He's a graduate of the FBI Academy at Quantico,
Virginia and has a senior certification from the Arkansas Commission
on Law Enforcement Standards.Prior to his promotion as deputy director,
Colonel Dozier served the department in roles as a Highway Patrol
trooper, an arson investigator for the Office of State Fire Marshal,
he was an investigator within the Criminal Investigation Division,
executive officer to the director and commander of the Criminal
Investigation Division.
